I've been trying to get into headphones again. Sold my Sonos Faber Sonetto V and Hegel H390 partially for a quieter home. I mention that gear since it had a VERY live sound to it. Very forward sounding with tremendous imaging and a tight low-end.
I'm learning quickly that headphones are complicated. I have a Bluesound Node for streaming and it has a headphone output. The Edition XS headphones sound terrible with it, no life what so ever and the sound is strained. My iPad with the cheap Apple DAC USB-C adapter sounds better.
I'd love to keep the Bluesound Node since it is a great steamer for Tidal, but I have no idea how to best drive these headphones (or others). The Bluesound Node DAC is decent, but wasn't close to what the Hegel had.
Appreciate any direction. The Edition XS may be too laid back for me, I prefer more forward vocals and a wide soundstage. Years ago I had some Stax electrostatic headphones that I loved, but haven't tried those for years.
Thanks

To my ears and most other peoples reviews, the XS have quite a large soundstage.
As far as driving it, my Asgard 3 on low gain with the knob at 9 o'clock is more then enough, depending on the recording.
