Tom Hilfiger at its base is for customers who have no clue about what an actual quality product would be. I've always hated their clothes, even when The Wu-Tang Clan would pimp them, thought they were fugly.

They do have some good products too. I have TH wallet, socks and sunglasses. I didn't buy any of these because of the brand but because they are genuinely good products.
I think this product was a result of complete ignorance of some exec.

I will keep an open mind, but I remember some friends who were into the east-coast rap in the 90s that sported these clothes. When I saw them up close, the quality and the stitching didn't match the commanded price for their clothes. These are of course opinion on value since it's a luxury brand so my opinions should be taken with a grain of salt!

I'm not really into their clothes either but it just happens their socks are pretty good and cheap. For the wallet they had tons of different configurations so you could find exactly your preference. Sunglasses are prescription so I did a lot of comparing.
I think many brands have a quite large variance in quality and price. Two big ones are Adidas and especially Nike in my opinion. When it comes to audio products Audio-technica has THE affordable microphone but at least the headphones I've had were fundamentally flawed and snapped just by normal wear. That seemed like a common problem, too.
I don't think many expensive luxury brands are good quality in general but more about looks and style. What I've seen Prada at least would fit in this category.
