the right driver sounds harsh but only when im listening to people talk. kinda hard to explain, sounds harsh and metallic. can this happen when a driver is starting to shit the bed?

nah ive had them for a couple years now, and its only coming out of the right driver. theyve never sounded this way.

Try reseating the headphone cable in the right socket. If that doesn't work, try another headphone cable if you have one.

try taking the pads off and seeing if theres any debris in the drivers

See if there’s a loose hair or something between the pad and the driver? I think that normally ends up producing more of a buzzing sound, but it’s possible something got lodged in between maybe

Damn, it can really happen like that? I did swap my pads not too long ago and I think it started happening after the pad swap so maybe that's it.

In that case, check to make sure all four clips are seated in properly. The Hifiman pad ring mechanism can be a giant pain in the ass when pad rolling, and can lead to anomalous sounds when even one clip is not fully secured.
