Some stories: Last week I auditioned some headphones, looking for a potential upgrade to the HD800S. I tried on the Empyreans, they are very warm and musical, not as detailed as the HD800S but very relaxing to listen to. Next, the Arya Stealths are surprisingly very balanced with more bass than the HD800S, although I found the build quality to not be that great. Lastly, I tried the HD820 just for fun, however, I was surprised that for a closed back, the soundstage and detail retrieval are the exact same as the HD800S, with the only downside being that weird mid tuning.
In conclusion, I decided to end my headphone journey with the HD800S (for now) and move on to upgrading my speakers instead. I find that the HD800S offers the best value for pair of Hi-end cans (I got it on sale for around $1,200), great build quality with unmatched soundstage and neutral-bright tuning, allowing you to EQ it to however you like and therefore is a great all rounder IMO.

Love my 800s. What a versatile joy they are and I’m happy with them like 80% of the time. However, I do like me some metal from time to time and I find it that I either have to apply a very heavy eq on my 800s or go for another set of cans. Ended up getting the dca aeons as it felt just wrong butchering the 800s sound. Though I wouldn’t say it was because 800s lack base. In my opinion their base is just fine. It’s just their rich detail and lightness is what makes me enjoy them.

why would one ever want to eq such expensive cans? i want them to sound great out of the box

Why not? The HD800s have really damn good soundstage and I don't know any other headphone that comes close at its price point. But the sound signature isn't quite my cuppa tea. So why not fix it literally for free? If I want a perfect headphone I'd have to buy the HE-1. But I don't have that kinda money, so I tune what I DO have to more suit my liking.

Maybe i should eq my sundaras? I am quite satysfied with the sound but maybe i can get more? But i need an app with an easy UI

On Android you can use Wavelet. It's incredibly easy to use. On Windows you can use Equalizer APO with the Peace GUI. It's not as easy to use as Wavelet but there are plenty of videos on YouTube on how to use it. But once it's set up, you don't really have to touch it anymore. For EQ profiles, I'd go with one from u/oratory1990 (which you can find on r/oratory1990) and edit that to your liking (if necessary).

I feel like that the app kills the sound of my sundara without touching anything so i never knew where to start so i unistalled it again which fixed it the whole app is weird to me. I meqn apo btw

Try Roon so that you can EQ with WASAPI and therefore no interference/distortion from your PC. I also had this problem before discovering Roon!
