Love my MDR EX800ST! I popped out the little ring inside and pulled out the foam and it sounds a lot better to me! A fair bit brighter and wider. People are comparing it to the EX1000ST after that modification.

The hell you talking about? What I mean about this is that Neutron has a lot of functionality but people absolutely hate the UI (understandably, cause it's not intuitive like Poweramp). I like the UI because that's what I'm used to it.

I wouldn‘t say least important. It is just as important as the function. If the design and layout is crap but it has the be functions ever created it‘s still crap.

A good design is like a manual you don‘t have to read, you just know what to do.

Let‘s stick with ‚Form follows function‘ which still adds to your point just without the exaggeration.

Really not, a lot of people seem to hate the unmodified Equalizer APO but I really like it, or when it comes to converting an image strip to a gif, people use god knows what software, I like to use Image Magick, sure, you have to work in a CMD window in a command line, but I couldn't care less, if you do it right the result is awesome. I would ABSOLUTELY NEVER sacrarice functionality for a UX optimised program, besides Marketing people, UX designers are my worst enemy, it's just that people got lazy and stupid and can't figure out how things work if it isn't directly handed to them on a silver plate, which often means sacraficing a lot of functionality, that's also why almost every company only give you a 3-band EQ, the average user would have absolutely no idea what they should do if they got a full blown Parametric EQ handed to them, if the documentation is good it doesn't take more than a bit of common sense and a few minutes if reading to figure out how things work, sure, it's annoying at the beginning but it'll make your life 10x easier in the long run, I have UX in university and I hate absolutely everything we are learning there, quite literally the opposite of what I would do

Yeah, I know, that's what you are supposed to do, but that's also not what I want to do, and if it means getting a terrible experience for 90% of users but getting an awesome experience for the other 10% of users who like being able to do whatever they want then that's a sacrifice I am willing to make

Have you tried Musicolet ? I don't know if it supports it but it's the best music player I have ever used, and the developer is quite active and responds fast to emails if you need something or have a problem.

Have you tried HiByMusic? It's free and I'm currently trying it out, the ui looks faaaar nicer than neutron and uapp, as well as it being free lol and offering basically the same features

You could turn on "linear scale" option to get much more flexibility in changing volume levels.

Audio Hardware >> Direct USB Access >> Volume Control >> Linear Scale

I am not entirely sure what it does, but it feels like turning on "linear scale" spreads volume (over 100 levels) much more evenly if that makes sense.

For example:

When I use apple dongle for my iems, I usually gets comfortable volume around 3-5 steps of volume level. But increase in one more step of volume level from this makes it painfully loud without linear scale turned on.

With linear scale turned on I usually end up in comfortable volume around 60-70 steps. And increase in each steps of volume level is not making it painfully loud.

So I get much more flexibility in adjusting volume to taste with linear scale on.

It acts on the volume in a linear way, where the volume scale (decibels) work in a logarithmic way. Meaning you'll get a ton of volume at max, then it'll drop off quite rapidly and from 50% down to 0, it's fairly quiet. You can see this behavior in guitar volume pots, which are also classified as linear or logarithmic

I haven't verified, but what it should do is convert the volume level from logarithmic to linear. I'll explain.

Log based systems in effect take the logarithm of value. This means that if the volume goes up 10x there is still room on the scale.

Linear doubles the sound when the number doubles (2 doubles to 4, 50 doubles to 100).

In specific cases you can find things happening like with a lot scale 1 can be too high. But with a linear scale that same 1 value usually ends up somewhere around 5-10. The downside is that if you have a device that requires the upper end of scale you've lost all volume control, it has become just an on-off switch as the granularity at the top is lost.

No. And Sony is kinda notorious for its headphones game (ie polarizing unlike their IEMs which is generally liked).
