Hello! I am thinking to get a Sony 50X90S but sadly it's doesn't have a 3.5 jack output to connect my wired headset

What is the best option to connect my 3.5 jack and not lose audio quality along the way?

Right now I have 2 options in mind, USB to Jack 3.5 adapter or DAC, but I hear options.

Another question I ask myself is... in case it was a DAC, would applications such as Netflix, HBO, etc. block the audio when using an external device like the DAC?

Does your tv have optical audio output?

I got this last year for £14 from amazon for my samsung tv & it works a treat.

I’ll be really surprised if the tv can output sound over USB. I expect you’re going to need some kind of intermediate hardware. If the TV has a Bluetooth out you can use something like a Qudelix as the intermediate. A stereo receiver will also usually have a headphone out (and optical or HDMI arc input you can use to get sound from the TV). Or you can get a dac/amp, they almost always have an optical input, and TVs have optical outputs.

The Bluetooth option will involve some compromise on sound, and also has a bit of lag. Any other option won’t compromise quality in any significant way. Including USB, if somehow that works (which, again, would shock me).

I have seen people that use a USB to Jack 3.5 adapter to connect their headphones to a Nintendo Switch Dock so... maybe in a TV would work? xD

If not a safe bet, well, i guess that a DAC would work

If tv os is android based, maybe a class compliant audio device will work.

A 3.5mm jack in a TV will likely be running through its own conversion/amplification, which I would not expect to be top tier. You could maybe get a digital signal out via audio return or probably your best bet is if the TV has optical out which you can plug into your own DAC/Amp.

You’ll need to check to see if the built in USB port on the TV can be used to output audio. I know some don’t, so I don’t know how common it is.

I can’t imagine why they would do that. Seems it would seriously hamper its usefulness as a way to consume media. But then again I guess it wouldn’t be the craziest thing ever.

Even xbox doesn't allow audio via USB port. I think TV's in general can't either. Best option is via optical port of TV to your dac/amp.

Or get the sennheiser flex 5000 (good for movies and gaming but less so for music)

Okay, let's do the basics:

A DAC is a digital-to-analog converter. If you use a digital thing (TV, tablet, phone, computer, Cd player, basically anything that isn't tape or vinyl) you need to do this step to produce an analog sound.

If you want to then hear the sound, it needs to be amplified. A DAC doesn't produce an audible signal on its own.

Neither is very difficult to do these days - the dongles that some phones have included often do both.

There are many, many DACs and amplifiers you could buy. It depends heavily on what you want to spend on them. One option per example: FX-AUDIO DAC-X6 MKII

Had a quick glance at the specs of the 50X90S.

It should have a optical (Toslink) out at the side.

Connect a DAC/headphone amp with optical input to it and you are fine.

You might need to dive in the TV menu to make sure the output is PCM only.

Optical to DAC for 2 channel sound will be lossless. HDMI is lossless for more channels.

Your TV does optical. Optical to a DAC sure works. A HDMi audio extractor will work, and will play sound from the tv if it supports ARC. Option 3 is over Bluetooth to something like a qdelix 5k, although quality may take a hit.

A USB dac might actually work, it works for some Sony TVs https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/android-tv/usb-audio-support-usb-dac-for-sony-bravia-android-tv-kd-49xh8096/td-p/3881043 but it doesn't look well-supported. I wouldn't buy a usb dac for that tv without knowing that particular model works.

Probably need an amp too, or an amp dac combo.

I do optical out to some kind of device. Bedroom TV I feed to a BT transmitter. In my office/gameroom I use a Dac (schitt Hela), USB-C to my computer, optical from my TV, out to a pair of speakers, I can go from headphone to speakers in a moment and switch between TV and computer with a quick switch. In living room optical out to amp.

Just need to decide if how you want to configure it.
