Yeah, isn't it weird that there's no on/off switch on the Modi?

Well now I want to Schiit at night…

I was listening to some music in the dark (it is a weird way to unwind but hey) and thought the red glow from the Mangi Heresy had a stranger things vibe to it. Took a picture using Google Night Sight and it came out all right. Hope everyone is having a good closing ceremony to their weekend!

If that heresy was made before 2022 October, i suggest swapping it for one that was made after 2022 October. They fixed the killing headphones problem with the new revision.

Honestly, Id suggest buying another manufacturer entirely. I owned 3 shiit products so far and was unsatisfied with all of them.
Fulla 2:
- Horrible static noise when turning the volume knob after a few months of use
- Rear 3.5mm pre-amp out is so badly hidden behind that metal lid that its basically unreachable for any normal cable
Modi 3:
- No OFF-switch, I have to turn off its power source completely, otherwise it illuminated half my room at night
- Regularly fails to get recognised by my pc when using USB, works fine with optical
Magni Heresy:
- Same static noise problem when using the volume knob after a while
- Ended its own life with a loud POP noise that felt like it made me borderline deaf
- found out it lacks some kind of protection, which can be dangerous to your headphones in rare cases
Im tired of it all. The Modi/Magni stack was a second chance after the Fulla. Same shit, especially the static noise. They all sounded good though.
I own a Topping E30/L30 II stack now, which is indefinitely better for the same price.
- no sign of static noise on the volume knob
- much smoother volume knob in general
- three gain levels
- both of them measure better than their shiit counterparts (check ASR)
- OFF-button on the DAC
- Display on the DAC
- no usb problems
- Output volume control on the DAC
- included remote of the remote
- both of their enclosures feel far more premium compared to shiits low end products
All of that for basically the same price.
If you dont like Topping (I wouldnt know why), try JDS labs, I have no experience with them, but they cant be worth than shiit.

The another manufacturer you can take is S.M.S.L. Almost the same price as topping and have the same performance but looks different.

Nice headphones. ;)
I know that grados don't need to be amped, but how does it sound with your stack? Did you notice any improvements?
I'm asking because I'm getting me an entry amp/dac and my grados will be the first headphones I plugged into it. Just wondering if I'm in for something like more spacious and detailed sound, or nothing at all.

Grados sound very good without an amp and they certainly can get very loud unamped because of their sensitivity. With an amp, the sound is improved - more full with better bass, at least to my ears.
Back in the days of the original SR60, SR80, and SR125 (before they introduced the i, e, and x iteration), the prevailing wisdom on head-fi.org was that only the SR60 was decent unamped, and that an amp was needed to unlock the sound quality from the SR80 and SR125 (as well as the even higher-end models).
Enjoy your amped Grados!

I actually have the sr60's(no letter afterwards). So we both have some old cans.
Anyways thanks for your impressions. Looking forward to hearing my grados in a "new light".

Yours are originals, since i don't see a letter? Have you tried them in comparison with e or x?

These are the SR80i, haven't yet compared them to it's newer brothers.

I've got the same exact setup! Using Hifiman XSs with an Ananda headband. I also use it to power my bookshelf speakers. Magni Heresey + Modi is such an awesome kit for the price
