You can take solace in the fact that they are sort of built to be very repairable, so disassembly should be easy.

I did the same thing to my pair of Sony MDR-7506s. So much more convenient than the stock coiled cable.

I can never keep them from getting tangled up. I have straight cables in lengths from 3-25ft, so I just swap them as needed.

I just ordered a few mini XLR jacks and connectors but still don't like the idea of ripping open mine to mod it (only got them a few months ago)
