beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO kinda uncomfy

These are the nicest sounding headphones I own and I love them dearly, but the ear pads and the headband just HURT? My poor ears and scalp are so sore after like an hour? Is there any recommendations for comfier Ear pads and headbands?

These are sweet cans so I’m willing to drop a little money, thanks for your time :)

The best aftermarket pads are the Dekoni Elite Velour but they will change the sound of the headphone. Pads play a very big role in the tuning of a headphone.

As far as the headband goes, some people like to put the Dekoni nuggets and they say it improves comfort.

As far as the clamp force goes, the headband is made out of metal and you can bend it to your liking to reduce the clamp. I suggest you try this first before you start investing in pads.

They shouldnt be resting too heavily on your ears or scalp. Can you adjust the drivers to float in the center of your ear? The compression should be able to keep the band off of your head (or lightly on it). We probably have different head shapes, but I wear these for like 8-9 hours sometimes with no problem.

Are you using the A or B pads? The B pads are quite stiff and uncomfortable to begin with, but it doesn't take that long before they start to wear down and fit the shape of your head. After that I find them pretty comfortable

I think I may be using the A pads in that case, gave em both pairs a good squish and the ones I’m using feel much softer.

You can also tell from the vent pattern on the back, the A pads have 4 holes, and B pads have many holes. B pads deliver more bass and warmth in the lower mids (as well as maybe a little more upper mid presence).

I personally like the sound, some people say they sound bloated. To be fair, there does seem to be a degree of unit variation, one sample crinacle measured seems to be a fair bit bassier than the other, so it's possible my pair is a leaner sounding set.

yeah, i had the 1990 too, but couldnt wear them for more than 15 minutes. gave up eventually, sold them and got the T1. similar sound, way more comfortable

I’m realizing I might just have big goofy ears and they’re resting right on the drivers, pushing them into my head. As for the band, I’ll look into the nugs stangenchev suggested! So maybe I just need deeper cups? But I don’t want it to ruin the sound… maybe audio is pain

The headband gave me hotspots too. I replaced it with the ZMF pilot band, had to remove the original but it’s very simple, you only have to remove the four t10 torx screws.

I also replaced the pads with the Dekoni elite velour pads, although more for sound than comfort.
