Mine grabs my hand with her front paws and kangaroo kicks my arm. Can't get it out of her grip but still kicks me.

I used to have a fluffy cat that would do the same. She was the best!

my cat did something different too: grab hold of my hand with his front paws, sink his teeth into my hand and rake my arm with his hind claws

You can train kittens to be gentle by using a high pitched sound when they hurt you. It gives them a little surprise to temporarily stop. It's how playmates learn to not hurt each other and it can really help spare your hands when playing.

Turkish Van are my favorite kitties. Mine has a beautiful mane just like this one. She too is extra special in her adorable way!

You unlocked their grooming impulse. Cats groom themselves with their tongues, and when you reach a spot that they can't normally groom on their own, they'll do that. A lot of cats do this when you scratch near their tails.

I’ve only seen that happen when you scratch at the base of the tail.

Lol my dog does that, whenever you scratch her butt or back leg, she will violently start licking the air, it's the cutest thing.

I had an all white cat named Sam who wasn’t too bright. But he would do the Sam thing, purr and clean his fur.

My ragdolls also do this! I wonder if that’s a common trait in them specifically. They furiously lick anything close to their mouth when they’re excited lol.

This, you can teach them to be gentle. Cats don't realize we have thin human skin, cat skin is tough! After awhile I could gently tap my cat's paws if she was getting too much with the claws, usually while kneading, and she'd lighten up or wait to let me put something thicker between her claws and my skin. She was a smart kitty and I miss her.

My friend has a male cat that he made lay in his lap so he could scratch his chest. Th cat hated it but was forced into it. After a while the cat got to thinking hey this is pretty good. He would jump in the lap of people he knew roll over for scratches.

Our cat, which we've had about three years since a kitten, is the only cat I know that likes belly scratches. Doesn't resist, doesn't scratch. Just lets us hold her like a baby and purrs.

Cats also have extra skin on their underside to protect them during fights with other cats. It often makes them look fat, but that's just a protective layer of skin. Your other cat is safe from disembowelment as long as they have that.

I had a cat named Chuck who I would scratch just above his tail, and he would start just chewing the air and purring. He'd get so mad when i would stop.

For some reason, my superpower is being able to identify that spot on a dog that causes their hind leg to kick. Small dogs too big, I’ve scritched them all. One time, I got me friends’ orange tabby to do it, too! I have a gift.

jboardman51 t1_iz8d5cp wrote

My floof of a ragdoll does this exact same thing when I scratch her in that same spot haha

Both of our cats (not siblings) like belly scratches like yours. We just did it calmly a soft since they were kittens, like we were gently grooming them, and not to appear as if we are playing with them. 2 years later they'll roll over for us to give them pets and rubs all along their bellies. They also don't scratch or bite, like ever. Except my big toe when I wiggle it under the blankets. 😆 I swear we won the lottery with the two of them, that or we did something rare when raising them. You probably did similar.

I believe you are simply tickling them. It's probably not pleasant for them, but they love scratches so they don't try to stop you.

That's what I heard anyway. Is there basis behind this?

I used to live together with a fur baby called Blackberry https://www.reddit.com/r/aww/comments/k2yktr/bliss_looks_like_this/

She is the nicest, gentlest kitty there every lived. She used to be a pregnant stray and always behave like no bad can ever happen to her and there is no danger in the world at all. I am surprised she could survive in the streets of Saint-Petersburg, but I'm glad we rescued her!

So the point is, that little lady never bit me once in her life and allowed me to pet and scratch any part of her belly or even her paws. I love that cat and I'm glad that she lives with my friend now, they completely spoil her)
