Really beautiful artwork! Sadly I would ruin it in under an hour of skating. Check out Clear Mob Grip Tape, I know a few people who use it so they can keep artwork on top of the deck instead of on the underside.

In the clip they at least acknowledge they are just going to hang the deck up rather than ride it.

Otherwise yes art on the underside of a board would never last long.

You could toss some risers on the trucks, good bearings and big soft wheels and use it as a transportation only deck. We used to do that to decks we liked the graphics of and called em big wheels. Like a hybrid longboard.

'Transportation only deck' is the longest way I've ever heard someone refer to a cruiser lol

Pyrography (wood burning) is another slightly more permanent option and not much harder to do if you've already got the drawing skills and pen control OP has.

I draw/paint and found wood burning difficult as fuck.

Two things make it easier.

  1. Smooth, low moisture wood

  2. An extremely hot tool

Most kits online are juat low heat soldering irons rebranded for wood burning and they suck.

The point is it's art and there doesn't have to be a point to art. Hanging painted skateboards on the wall as art pieces is not an uncommon thing anyway. The large flat surface is good to draw on, it's got a unique shape that looks different than a regular frame, and it has a distinct connection to a certain lifestyle that you might want to include in your art. They look nice on the wall.

Without a point it isn't art, it's decoration.

If you want to decorate your house with an unused skateboard, go ahead. But all of those answers you gave above, those are choices that mean something. The idea that art doesn't have to have a point, is not it.

That is not the definition of either of those words.
