Yeah, but then I get bored after 5 minutes.

The only games I like playing are games like “My Singing Monsters” or “Dragon City” or stuff like that. Is that bad? I feel like those are old people games. I feel like I have the brain of an old person.

You’re overthinking, choose easy mode when you can and experiment with games. Maybe you just suck at fps games so see if rts games are more your liking. Sometimes it’s just having fun even if you’re good or not.
TheGamerHelper t1_j2fdee7 wrote
It’s not your fault, it’s our fault for believing these video games hype. All games that come out now and days suck and just unfinished. Our expectations for games are so high we get easily disappointed.
Crimsonclaw111 t1_j2fdg2u wrote
It's not bad at all, you enjoy what you enjoy. I'm just saying that there's no need to compare yourself to others when gaming is more varied than ever. Puzzle games, for example, released every day.
I just finished Carto, playing Baba is You, stuff like that.
Shin-Gami t1_j2fdigi wrote
Switch to single player games. That’s what I did. 😅 I dare not play any of the battle royale games. I really like puzzle games now. Helps you think too.. two-fer.

That’s the thing. With fps games, I get pissed off when I die. with any other game, I get bored after 5 minutes. There is nothing for me to play anymore. I’ve tried VR too and it’s the same thing, bored after 5 minutes. Maybe it’s just because I have ADD but I feel like I can’t find a single game that I like to play anymore.

Have you tried to improve or just mindless spam games hoping to randomly get better?
Your life will be hell if you just give up any time you’re not good at something.
NaturalNines t1_j2fds76 wrote
I used to be really good at video games. Really fucking good. Now I suck. I still enjoy them. Play more single player games and have fun with it. Don't just expect the game to drag you along like they used to, that fades with time. But you can always return for your own reasons and even find new ones as you branch out.
Kmulv1356 t1_j2fdtcw wrote
Yeah, I guess. But the most I’ve ever played a single game for is like 10 minutes or so. I can’t find any good games anymore.
Shin-Gami t1_j2fe0hy wrote
God of War, Halo are just two that come to mind. But there are loads of fantastic single player games.
Kmulv1356 t1_j2fe7an wrote
My life is already hell as it is. My grandfather died like 2 years ago, my neighbour doesn’t have long left to live because of lung cancer (we are pretty close friends), and I have ADD and I get distracted easily so I can’t stay on a single game for more then 10 minutes, plus I think I might have depression.
Kmulv1356 t1_j2fecus wrote
I’d try them if I had a computer that could run them and the money to buy them. Right now I just have a gaming laptop with a 1650 graphics card.

Stop competing. Play single player games. Play on easy mode if you have to. If you still don't enjoy yourself, then yeah it's probably time for a new hobby. I only play single player and if it's a good game, with a good story I'm set
Shin-Gami t1_j2felqc wrote
You just need to change your perspective going forward. If your reflexes are not as sharp as the lil’ kids anymore, play slower games.
Play for the story or the thought process. “As Dusk Falls” is a game I played recently that is amazing. But if you like fast paced games, stay away from it.
Other games I played recently: Life is Strange Desperados 3 Tell Me Why Death Squared DeathLoop High on Life Return to Monkey Island
Lots of options out there if you can no longer compete with the 10 yr olds online. Lol
Shin-Gami t1_j2ffif5 wrote
That took a very sharp left turn. I didn’t know we were going that way.

Unless you’re a top 1% pro there’s always going to be someone better than you and therefore there will always be frustration with online multiplayer. I’ve learned to move away from such games because I found them bad for my mental health. Like others are saying stick to single player or coop games
Kmulv1356 t1_j2fggtw wrote
You see? Right there! Online multiplayers cause mental health problems in both you and I and probably in tons of other people too. Why make those games if this is what happens when someone plays them? I don’t get it. The gaming world is stupid.

Play Old School runescape

It’s definitely a problem that doesn’t get talked about enough. I would compare it to a gambling addiction where all you want to do is keep playing to gain that adrenaline from winning even though there is going to be some losses on the way
Kmulv1356 t1_j2fh5mo wrote
I’m not really a big fan of RuneScape.
Kmulv1356 t1_j2fhcia wrote
Yes, exactly! This needs to be talked about but does anybody care about it? Nope, nobody will ever care about it. That’s the problem with it. Everybody thinks it’s normal so it never gets talked about.

If you’re giving yourself such a hard time, it might be time to detox and find a different hobby. It takes time and patience to get good at most video games. It requires pushing through the sucky phase, not giving up because of it. Personally, forcing slow hobbies helps my attention span and focus. Maybe find some books you like, or buy some cheap paints or something.
DerangedGarfield t1_j2flnxi wrote

OP, I read all of your comments/responses. It’s clear that you do not want actual feedback and just shut down everyone’s recommendations without even trying.
You need therapy and new hobbies to control your anger–not validation from random Redditors.

My friend absolutely sucks at video games. Like...it's excruciating to watch...but he enjoys himself...who cares?
Play your way my friend. Sometimes the little victories are what's fun.
I absolutely LOVE Mortal Kombat....something about fighting games just can't compute with my hand eye coordination (which I thought was pretty good), but that 1/10 win or finally getting that combo really makes it worth while win or lose.
Kmulv1356 t1_j2ft1tq wrote
Pretty much, yeah. But that happens with single player games as well. I was having trouble with something on a game and my dad asked to try but he had never even seen the game before. He tried and got past the part. This is why I’m asking if I should still be playing video games or if I should try to find something else to do.
buns85 t1_j2ftsim wrote
That’s a really pessimistic thought process to have, imo. There’s always going to be people better at you in anything that you try, that pretty much goes for everyone. If that’s your stance then you might at well not try any hobby or activity lol.

Go to G.O.G. download the Galaxy interface. "Buy" the free games, try them see if you like them. These are all old games that run through emulator software. They sell good old games very cheaply.
