I feel this to my very soul. I was rudely awakened earlier this week to mine chirping and the first thing I did was take the battery out. No way I am listening to it chirp 24/7.

Star listening to Scottish streamers. New smoke alarm regulations came into effect earlier this year, meaning everyone should have new alarms with 10-year batteries.

About 90% of fatality fires I help investigate didn't have batteries in their smoke detector or had no smoke detectors.
Change it. Rent a ladder or hire someone to change it if you cant reach it. Hell even call your local fire department and ask for help; they may do it for free.

I replace smoke detectors pretty regularly, and always install the ones with ten year, non replaceable batteries

I don't care about the chirping. I don't like going to fatality fires where the smoke detector didn't have a battery in it.

I didn't even know this was a thing until this past year. I've owned my house 10 years and replaced all of the smoke alarms with 10 year battery alarms. Boom, no more chirps!
