Consumers should be in the position of power.
The best the gaming industry got was when purchasing was truly optional. Well conceived and made games flourish and bad money grabs flounder. The grip big companies get on consumers is how an industry regresses. The more accessible it is the more quality is rewarded.

The problem I have with this argument is what if nintendo just stops making games because of declining sales and decides to focus solely on remakes because they're easy money?

Did they stop making game of thrones? No.
Have they stopped making games? No.
Why would this pattern dramatically change in your hypothetical worry? It’s a huge and ludicrous jump.
