That's interesting. Lan parties are supposed to be for multiplayer gaming I thought

They are. Hence the "LAN" portion. Local Area Network. Aka, connecting multiple devices to a network, locally.

God of War maybe?

And right now I'm playing Immortals Fenyx Rising. I though it would be childish and meh, but I'm actually surprised by how much I'm enjoying it. It's on gamepass right now.

It's pretty good, I just hate collectible things and that game has that in spades

Does it have to be true LAN, or would any multiplayer work?

The Diablo 2 Remaster has beautiful graphics and it's currently on sale for 50% off, the story isn't anything special but it's a fun party game especially with real life friends. The original game had TCP/IP functionality for LAN but unfortunately it was gutted in the remaster, still pretty fun over Bnet in my opinion.

One of the things that killed LAN party games is the inability to host dedicated servers for most modern FPS shooters. They are mainly online only. We had LAN parties with CS 1.6, TF2, COD2 and 4 along with the grand dady Quake III Arena. Many years after they had stopped being mega popular. Problem now is people have such good internet they dont want to luge PC's to a hall and LAN
