It's the year 2023 where everyone has many different options which games to play. It's the equivalent of complaining about the music industry releasing pop music instead of more rock music and how they should cater to what I want. The music industry isn't a singular entity that makes it own individual decisions. It consist of many different individuals who can post any content like on Spotify, Soundcloud and Youtube. There are also many different genres out there that you must also include. Many of those genres don't cater to anyone and only satisfy people who enjoy those niche genre.
I really don't get why so many gamers are unable to comprehend this. I see more people who only play single player games constantly whining about multiplayer games such as Battle Royal and looter shooter games being popular. Many of them felt "abandoned" by the gaming industry. First of all that's not remotely true when the gaming industry constantly releases AAA+ games. I also find it interesting that alot of folks here aren't even political ,but still manages to have the aesthetics of anti capitalism (without the actual substance of it ,but that's an another conversation). One of the main thing about capitalism is the supply and demand aspect. When there is a demand the industry must increase its supply to keep up with the demand. Wanna know why the video game companies also release alot of multiplayer games? because there is CLEARLY a demand for it. It shows that there is clearly a market for MMOs, battle royale and multiplayer FPS games. Video game companies can't specifically cater to you. There are many different video game companies out there that produces many different genre of games. I enjoy multiplayer games and MMOs more than single player games ,but I don't go out of my way to demand the industry to stop producing single player games to produce more multiplayer games and MMOs just to cater to what I want. I would just go out of my way to ignore them.

There really is a reason for the complaints- they're more valid than you give them credit for! The reason is, as you state, money. Big triple-A publishers want more money than ever before. So, the games that get made are not inherently what people want- they're what turns the highest profits. That means genres getting homogenized into identical gameplay frameworks in an attempt to get the largest fantasy possible... 100 million kind-of fans is better than 10 million diehards as long as they all buy the game. It means Live Services rule the roost because a game you keep paying for month after month for years is way better than one you only buy once. It's way cheaper to maintain & patch a game than make a new one.
I don't play first person shooters. Something about the camera angle doesn't click with me. So after Halo blew up & companies had time to copy it for the 7th generation... well, I didn't play much in the AAA space that generation. It doesn't mean I played nothing, but when you can beat a game in a couple weeks & there's less than 10 releases in a year across 3 consoles you want? It certainly can feel like you're left out.
Of course, the complaining still seems a bit silly to me for one big reason: screw AAA, embrace the indie & retro. There's still a wealth of the purer, niche genres to be had if you move to smaller publishers- far easier to do since 8th gen saw the rise of the boutique, limited release publisher. And there's no reason to not just keep replaying your favorite old games! There's always something to play, if you're willing to find it- so keep looking & enjoy what's out there!
