For $200 I'm going to want the one with GPS satellite tracking to make sure I never lose it.

I have two of the regular ember mugs for home, and I like them a lot - but I've never really "got" the travel mugs.

It's $200, and they advertise that it can keep your drink hot for up to 3 hours.

A $25 stainless steel Thermos brand travel mug says it will keep your drink hot for 7 hours, just by virtue of being well-insulated.

It looks like the ember travel mug doesn't even have a charger cable jack on it - the ONLY way to charge it is with the charging coaster (like the regular ember mug) - so you can't even keep it "plugged in" during your commute.

Now, will the ember mug be the EXACT right temperature for 3 hours, instead of a gradient from "burning hot" to "warm" like the thermos? Yeah I guess, but it just seems like a huge sacrifice for a tiny benefit.

Wish they would make their regular mugs dishwasher safe. It's basically impossible to keep them clean given how delicate the coating is.

I recently saw one at Costco. What are people thinking spending $120 on a heated coffee mug? I just use a knock off yeti tumbler that costs like $20, and it keeps my coffee hot for hours. How long do you need your coffee to stay hot?

Tbh I am enjoying my ember mug more than I thought I would. I didn't even buy it myself, it was a gift.

The thing about it being consistent is why I like it. Without it, the drink is either going to be super hot or I forget about it while cooling down and it becomes cold.

I agree with you for the MUG. I have two, bought one for myself, got one as a gift. I like the consistency AND the fact that I can get a push notification when my coffee has cooled to my ideal temperature - since I brew at a temp higher than I want to drink.

Are you being serious? You can get many reasonably good quality HDTVs for $2-250 all day, and even less around the holidays and around the superbowl. It won't be 4K or smart, but it will be a solid display that the average person will think looks outstanding in their home.

My $12 thermos from Starbucks (metal and well insulated) keeps ice for 12+ hours lol even if in the sun. Shit is black magic. They stopped making these at some point and I am gonna fucking cry when my last one finally gets lost or the lid breaks.

Yea bro. The Walmart brand ozark trail knock off yetis are great. I think I paid $9 for the 32oz one and $7 for a 20oz one. Both are a few years old now and work great still. Keeps my coffee warm from 8am through early/mid afternoon, and I didn’t have to spend $40 or $200

I do have a question! Are the Yeti’s leak proof overall do you know or should I be looking for that specifically? Because this ridiculous $12 Starbucks one says not leak proof but they are most leak proof thing I have ever owned lmao

I own one of the last gen (bought with a ton of Starbucks gift cards).

As cool as the Find My support is, I can tell you that I usually know where my $180 coffee mug is.

$200?

Are you fucking with me?

I love my Zojirushi mug, and I can get almost four of them for that price.

How slowly do people generally drink their coffee? Or do they pack like 5 coffees pre brewed for the day to just suffer them getting more and more bitter over time?

I just got one as a gift. It’s not something I outright wanted but it has come in handy when I make coffee and then have to run after a toddler or get sucked into a work meeting and my coffee goes cold. It’s nice to have it heat back to a hot temp. But my yeti and Starbucks travel mug still get the job done too.

This makes sense as a product if you’re in the high end drink market (as a business). With the fourth wave of coffee hitting, it’s big business to offer high end specialty products to people looking to perfect their hobby. These are the same people willing to pay $100 for 100 coffee filters.

Plus this is only a bad investment if you plan to not use it daily for years. I’ve paid A LOT for headphones and I’ve used them daily for almost 10 years. I replace the ear pads every two years but the sound is still amazing and the sound cancelling is next level.

People complaining about this being the same price as a TV aren’t the target demographic.

Convenient to drink from, but they will definitively leak if tilted. I make coffee for my wife and I before commuting to work, and I indefinitely wouldn’t trust it in a backpack. I have a few Yeti’s though so I use the one with a screw cap, keeps my coffee nice and hot

jenlp82 t1_j37diu1 wrote

I forget the coffee exists and then drink it in a rush when lukewarm. With the mug, it stays warm but is still a mug experience and not an insulated tumbler. Would I spend the money again? Probably not. Do I regret buying it? Nah.

Yeah they same thing kills all of the gadgets for me... None of them are dishwasher safe. I can understand why, but with two kids and at least two to four loads of dishes a day I cannot have more hand wash dishes.

Also for a lot less money you can just have a plug in heating coaster. I think they are something like $15 and for that price you could have four or five placed around your house for the price of one mug...

Pretty ridiculously slowly for me tbh.

I work a 10 hour overnight shift and I'm in a car for the majority of it. It's not uncommon for me to make a cup of coffee last 6+ hours. When I go to take a sip around 1 or 2am and my coffee is still the exact same temperature, it hits me in my soul.

I love my Ember mug, but I agree I think it's for an extremely niche customer base with circumstances like mine.

NoBeRon79 t1_j63zms7 wrote

For those of you knocking Ember, the whole point is that it keeps your preferred temperature for a certain amount of time. It’s not meant to keep it warm or hot for 8 hrs. If you want your coffee at 145 degrees Fahrenheit - it will stay that way for 2-3 hrs. Most people got it as a gift and some bought it for themselves. The majority of Ember users love it so that should say something.

Also, I happen to know that Ember customer service is fantastic. The coating on my cup started to fall apart and they sent me a new cup without hassle. They stand behind their product. Would I pay $200 for a mug just for tracking purposes? No, because I have my Ember in my home office, but some folks might find that useful.
