I still don't trust these folding screens. I'm going to wait a few more generations before I consider one. I was just phone shopping, and looked at the Samsung Z Fold. It's nice, but I ultimately went with the S22 Ultra. Anyone else have experience with a folding screen?

Currently replying to you in a z fold. For me it's a great phone, I watch YouTube and almost all of my streaming shows on my phone and the big screen definitely is nice to have. The crease was something I noticed at first but over time I kinda forgot about it. Plus the folding part never comes loose which is surprising.
I think this phone is good if you're planning on using the big screen a lot, otherwise it might not be for you. It's pretty bulky in your pocket and the battery life is average at best. The folding screen is not perfect, not all apps are properly optimized for it, but it work surprisingly well for tech that's relatively early in its development.

I got it because normal smartphones are too long and super uncomfortable in pockets. The z flip 4 is sooo much better. I'm not afraid to sit down and worry about my phone bending in my pocket.

When I used an iPhone 4 it was uncomfortable to keep it in my pants pockets (not to mention it left a super visible mark).
This to say that even when the phones were small it was not ideal to put them in a pocket. For many years now I use a man's purse; it is perfect to transport the phone, wallet and keys.

Interesting. Aren't you afraid you're going to misplace or leave it somewhere by accident?
I have the luxury of working from home, so I always wear sweatpants with zipper pockets. It has the benefit of extra security and huge pockets for comfort and I don't think I could ever go back to jeans or any other type of pants.

No, I'm already used to it. Furthermore, I put the phone in an inner pocket, and the outer pocket closes with a zip, so it's well secure.

I personally went with the Microsoft Surface Duo 2. Microsoft took a different approach to the folding phone model and the Duo 2 is bananas. My big reservation with the folding phones is how delicate the inside screen can be and Microsoft solved that with their approach. Now that being said cases are very few and far between for the Duo 2 because of its unique design so it has other vulnerability considerations. Over all I've been blown away by the Duo 2 and I'll be grabbing a Duo 3 upon release.

If you were forced you could.

I got one a couple of weeks ago. Figured I'd give it a try since we're up to the 4th generation now. I thought I'd hate the folding screen because of the crease, but I really don't notice it.

We're already 4 generations deep, stop it.

I was completely convinced that I could make a ZFlip4 work and went far enough to save up money for it and do my research. But had to stop myself because of two options you HAVE to consider before buying it.
- Get insurance on the phone and pay a about 1/3 the phones price for it.
- Not get insurance but be ready to cough up 2/3rd the phones price when it breaks.
My current phone is a Note10 I got for $750 right after launch and cumilatively spent about $80 over 3 years on Cases and Screen Protectors. I somehow dont have the confidence that the ZFlip4 will be that maintenance free.

My friend got one and low and behold the screen came away at the centre and is out of warranty. It's a lot of money to spend on something that kind of obviously will have a weak point. Was pretty cool though to begin with.
