My big sister had one of these and I would spend hours on it when I went to her house. I'm a senior sys architect now and I attribute my love for computers to this.

Things I have learned by reading the article:

  • the Atari 800 does have an Atari key on the keyboard (bottom right)

  • Stock Market is a game. I knew it!

I had a 400 as well. Good times. No one understands me when I explain we had an Atari, but a computer one with better graphics!

It's hard to explain to kiddos that the concept was new. Not updated hardware/OS, better speeds, bigger screen. New types of machine.

Bought mine around 1982. Don't remember the price, but the BX in Germany sold me the cassette drive also and I paid $400 USD for it.

Had a subscription to magazine that included some programing. Each following month they would send out bug fix code. Those were the days!

$550.00 brand new, thats some cheddar back then (1979). Lol, I still have an original Atari 2600 with the case and all the games, still works too and I still play it from time to time. Damn things are bullet proof.

That was a helluva machine in its day. Blew the doors off the competition. Sigh.

I have like 5 of these that I bought from a guy a few years ago for 50 bucks. Came with a floppy drive, dot matrix printer, tape drive, all sorts of stuff
