BARF originally meant 'Born Again Raw Feeders'. They produce only species-appropriate food.

Well, seeing as dogs eat their own barf, I guess that tracks.

I always asked my dog when he was slurpin' up his own yak that if it didn't work the first time what made him think this time it would. I never got an answer.

Biologically Appropriate Raw Food. It's a brand of pet food that offers a natural approach to the diet, which is supposedly healthier than traditional dry pet food.

I guess it requires inappropriate level of zeal to keep track of your pet's diet scrupulously, but there are people who believe it's worth it.

As for the acronym, I first encountered it on a dog conference a couple of weeks ago and can't stop thinking about it since. Who on earth would name a food brand BARF? Are they insane? Don't they know the word? Why? How? I almost forgot and look, a reminder!
