It's really good. Essential a crispy type donut filled with oil and sugar.

Wait they’re filled? How big are these?
kgroover117 t1_j5ze388 wrote
Filled might be the wrong word. They basically are flour and sugar fried into spirals

Jalebi is Indian Desset
GothicSlayer2023 t1_j5zgguc wrote
Does it have a crunch like a chip?
CressSea8622 t1_j5zh7mp wrote
It has crunch but not like chip. Jalebi is made with a batter of all purpose flour, gram flour (besan), baking soda and water that is fermented for several hours. The fermented batter is then poured in concentric circles in hot oil and deep-fried. These fried spirals are then soaked in a flavored sugar syrup and served. It's sweet dessert but not super crunchy

Is funnel cake more accurate?
CressSea8622 t1_j5zhzgf wrote
Actually yeah.. it's more close. I'm not sure funnel cake is dipped into hot sugar syrup or not after deep fried.

I’m one of the rare ones who’s hate jalebi and gulab jamon. Kesar pista is amazing tho.
kardiogramm t1_j60dm3v wrote
It’s a fatter braided fried pastry. Jalebi is made from a liquid mix squirted in hot oil while a koeksister has a more normal bread dough and fried like a donut from what I remember. When fried and soaked in syrup it can have a crispy outer texture and soaked with syrup throughout (the good ones I have eaten had this). It’s different in texture but similar qualities in flavour, it’s that or the memory of the sugar rush is clouding my judgement.
It wouldn’t surprise me if this was an offshoot inspired by Jalebi given South Africa’s multicultural heritage.

Its thinner and way less doughy than a funnel cake. It probably ends up being more sugar syrup than dough after its dipped.
Theyre really sugary, its like a crispy fried straw filled with sugar syrup.
