Don't downvote this guy, he's pretty much correct. "Yakiniku" in modern restaurants will differ slightly from Korean barbecue to fit the Japanese palate, but it is essentially the same.
Yakiniku refers to the preparation of the meat, that being small pieces grilled by the diners at the table. It's a Japanese term, but the style originated in Korean restaurants and is derived from Korean barbecue.
