Try to brush it off next time, authenticity policing isn't only rude it's almost always wrong.
Unfortunately the way Reddit works is the first few comments/upvotes swing the entire rest of the comments section. So if four or five of those pedantic jerks get here first, they set a snowball in motion and suddenly you have an entire thread of confidently incorrect takes.

The literal worst commenters on this sub are the “actually this isn’t (dish)” people.
They can all eat shit and die while saying “actually this isn’t shit, it’s confit poopaldi”.

Can you say paella?
Beertimeanytime OP t1_j1mrdb4 wrote
Last time I called it that, I got chewed out because it had chicken in it. Apparently paella is a very specific dish

by your title, I knew you werent a first timer to this sub
khanser t1_j1o687e wrote
That´s a load of bullshit for whoever told you that, the traditional paella dish is made of chicken and rabbit. So you can tell that to whoever complains about chicken in paella. Also, thanks for giving a go to one of the dishes of my country. We have hundreds of ways of doing it, in my area we make them full fish and shellfish, and some people wouldn´t call that paella, so don´t listen to the haters. :D

A pretty popular spanish restaurant I worked at put chorizo in their paella and spanish people werent having any of it. It was delicious so who cares right.
Dan1elSan t1_j1pb2ye wrote
That’s the thing about paella though isn’t it, it was made for labourers and farmers with whatever the hell they could get hold of.

Your country has given us delicious foods AND wine. Thank you for not being overly precious about what constitutes a "proper" paella.

Isn't paella valenciana (one of the most popular variations) with chicken and rabbit?
BitchesQuoteMarilyn t1_j1qiljm wrote
Yes, there are different regional varieties that range from chicken and rabbit to only shellfish.

"Real" Paella is not supposed to have any seafood in it at all.
iced1777 t1_j1q30xb wrote
I was under the impression there was no "real" paella, its one of those dishes that every household/neighborhood/city/region has their own variations of
Thud2 t1_j1ojva8 wrote
That is definitely paella. Looks really tasty by the way. A little saffron would spice it up (that stuff is expensive though)

I did use that
Thud2 t1_j1okwaj wrote
How much did you pay for it where you live? Here in Seattle you can pay everywhere from 20 bucks for a couple of grams to $200 an ounce.

Paella while is a dish, it's also the name of the pan you are cooking in. Therefore it is a paella in the picture. Maybe has some other dish in it but there is a paella in the pic..

You mean Paella?
Edit: I didn’t know that has chicken on it then no, it’s not a paella.
Edit 2: wait no yes it’s a paella, paellas have chicken on it and rabbit sometimes, there’s the seafood paella too that goes with seafood only and no meatv
manzanator12 t1_j1pg8gq wrote
There are many types and variations of Paella depending on the type (senyoret for example has seafood) and the location where you order it. In the capital, Paella Valenciana has Garrofon, Baxoqueta, rabbit, snails and more. If you go to the south (meaning Alicante, not Andalusia), you can see it made with red Pepper which would be a crime in Valencia. However, it's never made with sausage.
That said, you enjoy your rice however you want. Spain loves it's food and we just love discussing it
khanser t1_j1o60ib wrote
The lemon is for AFTER it´s done, don´t put it in there for the cooking man. Also fish AND meat is YUCK. Vegetables and meat, vegetables and fish, or one of them by itself. Also is a bit too busy, try to get all the rice under the broth, otherwise you will find cracking rice while eating. You have to be able to even it out.
