But why the bread?

Magnetic_universe OP t1_j1q70lf wrote

You eat it all if you can, at least eventually! We made garlic bread with the filling as well.

Why is this downvoted so heavily??

28

MrBlahg t1_j1rr0kq wrote

Because eating a carbohydrate in a bowl of carbohydrate is a whole bunch of carbohydrates.

25

mashtartz t1_j1rrcso wrote

So?

28

MrBlahg t1_j1rryiq wrote

He asked why it was being downvoted, I gave an answer. The idea of something like garlic bread being served with a pasta dish is very much an American thing.

That’s probably why it’s being downvoted.

olivetree66 t1_j1rx6i5 wrote

OP is definitely not American lol. Probably Australian.

As someone who just found out that my 32 y/o nephew-in-law has never cooked for himself, I say good fucking job on being able to feed yourself. Keep learning.

Cannablitzed t1_j1slzqe wrote

Pouring cereal isn’t exactly cooking so I’m sure he’s done that, but only if someone else got it from the store. He has never used a stove, oven or grill and isn’t keen to try. Struggles with the microwave. Fucking loves Chipotle’s. He’s an only child who lived with his momma until last July when he moved in with his long term girlfriend, who is a fully functional adult.

I know the holidays can be tough u/triassic_Bark. But OP just posted a picture of some food, yes it's all carb, yes it's not perfect, but this is somewhat of a hobby sub that has all walks of life and all different levels of experience and expertise, does it really warrant this reaction?

You already have pasta. You don‘t need to put bread with it

BorisBoku t1_j1shhp8 wrote

Ever been to any Italian restaurant ever? They give you complimentary bread before your pasta dish comes out and it's amazing lol

1

buerglermeister t1_j1sxjqa wrote

yeah the bread is there to be eaten with any appetizers like caprese, salads, beef tartare, carpaccio or whatever. not with the pasta.

3

BorisBoku t1_j1tjyou wrote

So you consume the same amount of carbs, don't understand the problem here.

4

buerglermeister t1_j1tx6b6 wrote

Not really. It‘ a small piece of bread with an appetizer and not a whole slice to serve your pasta on and make a dry looking Carbonara even dryer

1

Kalagath t1_j1tr72z wrote

Besides potential appetizers the bread is there to soak up leftover sauce after you finish any saucy dish i.e. pasta. That’s called “fare la scarpetta” and is common practice in Italy.

But yeah to put it ON bread seems more like a gimmick. Leaving aside the fact that this doesn’t look to be ACTUAL carbonara.

−1

nturatello t1_j1tr4c6 wrote

Indeed. They give you complimentary bread to eat the remaining sauce with it and clean your plate. It is not to eat with the pasta because it doesn't make any sense. The OP's recipe doesn't make any sense.
