But a bad snickerdoodle is soul crushing.

Nothing worse than getting excited, but the second you pick it up you can tell it’s rock hard. That level of disappointment is hard to match.

Nope. Snickerdoodles have cream of tartar in them. Normal sugar cookies dont

That's not necessarily true. They often do, but a snickerdoodle doesn't have to have cream of tartar by definition to be a snickerdoodle.

Anything with "baking powder" technically has cream of tartar in it. Baking powder is a 1:2 ratio of baking soda to cream of tartar.

Edit: this isn't always true apparently. Baking Powder is an acid and a base. One of the acids commonly used is Cream of Tartar but others are used too. My Great Value baking powder uses Monocalcium phosphate for the acid.

In case you aren’t joking, no. Cream of tarter is an acid that you can add to baked goods that don’t have any other acids in them to react with the baking soda and give you some rise in your dough. Of course you can also just use baking powder which already contains an acid for the reaction.

Hard disagree. Snickerdoodles have a somewhat creamy texture compared to your average sugar cookie.
