Looks like how they dish em up at Jakes near here. I don't know if that's the traditional way to serve snails but they're damn delicious.

Sincere question here: do the snails really add much to the experience of eating escargot? I’ve eaten it once in Montreal and couldn’t help thinking the garlic, butter, etc really carried the dish and it would have been pretty much the same without the snails.

That’s exactly what I told my wife, who orders these any chance she gets. I let her go to town and then I scoop up the leftovers with a crostini.

They add a texture that the dish needs. I can’t think of many other meats that would add that texture without adding a strong flavor. But you’re right. Any time someone questions me for liking escargot, I just say “it just tastes like garlic and butter”.

FUN STORY: I went to Disney world Epcot center as a kid. Maybe 8. My parents ordered escargot at a French place and to be cool I tried it and pretend to like it. From then on they went out of their way to find places they served escargot. I stuck with it though I still wanted to be a sophisticated little boy. Until one day when they bought all the necessary items and actually learned how to cook it at home lol. Then I had to come clean. Shit got too real 😂

We eat snails stewed in soy sauce and garlic, the snails you find in ricefields.

I thought there was some recommendation to take the photo before eating the subject. But in case of the snails, i get it. It is delicious

Each green circle is a pool of seasoned garlic butter in which a snail is submerged, so there are 6 pieces of escargot in the photo!

Not slimy either. Your description sounds more like oysters… which I’ll eat occasionally but am not a huge fan of.

It’s not squishy at all.
