Where are you seeing these depictions? I’ve never seen such a suggestion.

He probably means something like this, but with a smartphone as the last "step" in evolution rather than a computer.

To answer the OP, those are comedic sketches, not accurate representations of what will happen to human evolution in the future.

I saw something about humans evolving stronger, more nimble thumbs help with texting.

Evolution doesn't work that way. If your texting ability stops you from reproducing, then the stronger texters who do reproduce may, eventually lead to a race called homotextus or something.

Basically, if it doesn't stop you from reproducing, it won't affect evolution.
