Do the squiggly vertical lines indicate where cities were renamed or subsumed into other cities?

Is everyone gunna ignore the fact that philidelphia's population tripled in 10 years

Based on above comment about squiggly lines, Philly incorporated lots of surrounding cities increasing their population dramatically.

Cincinnati surprised me, not sure why but man it was up there.

Is that it? Or was it the Irish Catholics just hitting their stride? 100 couples (1 parish) x 7 kids in a decade lines up. Spread that across 100 parishes? Sheesh!

Could be interesting but it isn’t in a format that’s easy to read or follow.
