This graph was created in 1869. The brown line shows the march to Moscow while the black line shows the return. Note the freezing temperatures during the return reaching a low of -38 °C (-34 °F). Only 93,000 survived out of the initial 685,000. More about the Grand Armée here.

Imagine If he would have fully committed his Grande Armee in the battle of Borodino to completely cutoff and destroy the retreating Russians, there's a good chance most of Europe would be speaking French right now.
