It would be comical if Elon’s wealth gave Elon the middle finger. Just $100 billion to go.

So my retirement is down 30% but some of these billionaires still end up increasing their net worth?

Bill Gates hasn't ran Microsoft in a while. Why's his name still up there?
hiricinee t1_j2ryihf wrote
He still has a shitload of net worth and a large stake in MSFT. Also if you took the total value of the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation, which basically is funded by him alone, and add it to his net worth, he's number 1.

Interesting that only US billionaires have notable losses in 2023.

We already had the largest separation in wealth at any point in history and it's only getting wider since 2020...the Rich will always get Richer.....
The only reason Musk and Bezos have lost so much net worth is because they are not investors. They are entrepreneurs, and will always sink money into startups, innovation and cool things... The rest of this list are people that know how to invest and maintain wealth.

Adani went from 9bn to 100bn+ in 2 years? That is insane even compared to Musk.

In Europe, the wealthiest people are wealthy mostly based on generations of accumulation and inheritance. In the US, the wealthiest people were mostly born to unremarkable families below the 7 or 8 figure range.

Data Source: Forbes World's Billionaires List
Tools Used: Node.js for data analysis/processing, React.js for data visualization. Affinity Designer for adding additional titles and labels.
A lot of wealth has been transferred in the past few years...first in 2020-2021 with the COVID-19 pandemic, and again now in the 2022-2023 recession. Searching online, I was surprised to find a few people on this list that I've never heard of before (Gautam Adani, Mukesh Ambani, Carlos Slim Helu). I created this graphic to visualize how today's top 10 billionaires net worth has been affected by all these changing economic events worldwide in recent years. The list is sorted descendingly from highest current net worth to lowest current net worth, as of January 2023).
