Curious where Tidal falls on this graph, if the data is available?
Suspicious_Chapter49 t1_iztlx4y wrote
In the meantime, Tidal is stuck with 4 monthly active users
captglasspac t1_iztmf2r wrote
Not one of them has a user interface that's worth a fuck.

I was notified by YTMusic that my rates would double in April 2023 after 5+ years of service.
I will be switching to Spotify then.
I would expect a dip in their subscriptions at that time.

Amazon Music HD has been fire. And it plays high quality flac for any of you audiophiles out there.
Ciarrai_IRL t1_iztohrg wrote
Hahaha. I used to have Tidal and really wanted to like it. In now with Amazon Music HD. Have been very happy with it.
Ciarrai_IRL t1_iztomyj wrote
They wouldn't hit the minimum threshold. Yes, I know it's set to zero.

I don’t know about the other 3 of us, but I really like Tidal after giving it a try.

For those that have tried different services, which do you prefer and why? Why do you think Spotify is so far ahead?
twisted28 t1_iztujft wrote
Yes, I’ve had it for many years. It was great. Now they keep changing it around, ruined the library.

I find it’s better at creating stations that come up with songs that actually fit the theme and has lead me to find some great artists. It’s also cheaper.
Apple Music is great if I know what I want to hear. On a Mac the player is horrible though. And I hate how “downloading” mixes it in with music I actually Own on iOS, which I absolutely detest.
thejml2000 t1_izu4byt wrote
Haha, am I missing something here? Seriously, why is there so much Pandora hate?
Lanaloki t1_izu4dgi wrote
OP mislabled the graph here—market share is a percentage, not an absolute value. This chart is just a count of paid subscriptions, not a calculation of market share (plus there are many smaller streaming services not listed here, so market share percentages can’t be deduced)

spotify is def the best one

Your title is music streaming market share and yet there is no info about market share in the graph

Compared to apple music:
-has good music discovery such as song/playlist radio, recommended songs, recommended playlists, similar artists, found on. -plus it's easy to click on a artist and go down a sort of musoc rabbit hole -Spotify is social. You can follow friends, make playlists together, Spotify makes blended playlists, you can see what friends are listening to
- Spotify has a good interface where you can easily switch between PC and phone
- searching for a song on apple music is odd. I feel like it's very americacentic. I feel like it assumes you spelled a popular English song wrong and suggests that instead of the foreign song you were looking for.
Idk I feel like it's just music discovery in general

Doubling how? They're only increasing the Youtube Premium "Family Package" from 17.99 to 22.99 (that's not double, and it's for Youtube as a whole, not just music)
Standalone YTmusic is 9.99. YTmusic family package isn't changing from 14.99 either.

I’m with ya dude. I like the stations on Pandora and none of the other services really do that well. It’s just curated playlists and that just doesn’t do it for me sometimes.
I use Apple Music for almost everything and then pay for pandora ad free couple times a year when I want some new variety.
whootdat t1_izvkld3 wrote
I'm curious what features you're getting from paid YT music that free doesn't have and/or couldn't be unlocked with AdBlock or YouTube vanced?
MrChelovek t1_izvyb27 wrote
Perhaps downloading? Some also prefer to pay, instead of trying to get it for free.

Playlist downloads can be made available to free users.
My point was, if people are unhappy with the price increase, why go to a platform they dislike when they can simply get around the dilemma with tools people in similar situations have made.
I don't think saying you want to pay to support a multi-billion dollar company is a good answer for "why" - maybe ease of use is, but if that were the case, why move to Spotify if you dislike it? That's not ease of use.

A good example of the result of cash over quality
Rxreppin t1_izyyahr wrote
100% agree. Love Pandora, their radio stations actually play the music that’s similar to the station you started.
Spotify, you start a country station and next thing you know Diplo is playing.
