You shouldn’t be using a connecting line for the percent advanced since the only possible values are integers, and given that the data is pretty noisy. Would be better to use bars or dots.

Tools: Just used Google Sheets to compile

Some things to note:

A score of 8 is impossible to get in the current format. I put that 0 percent of 8 advance, but it really could be any number because 0 have ever scored that.

It is impossible to advance to the next round with a score of 0, 1

It is possible to advance with a score of 2, but it has never happened.

It is possible to advance with a score of 3, but it has only happened 1 time

It is possible to not advance with a score of 5 or 6, but this has never happened so far. Every score above 5 has advanced.

A score of 7 or above guarantees advancement to the next round.

Edit: I had erroneously stated that a score of 2 meant you couldn't advance, but that is not correct, it is possible (though never happened) to advance with a point total of 2.

Edit 2: Also to be clear, this is point total, not points in game. 3 points are awarded for a win, 1 for a tie. I should have used points as opposed to score, my bad!

Great topic and interesting (but kind of expected) results, but I think you should use points instead of score. A match has a score but points are awarded for it.

Which team advanced with 3 points and when?

Yeah dang, you are right, should have done points, that would have made it more clear.

Chile in Group B, 1998. Need a lot of ties to make it happen.
Italy 7, Chile 3, Austria and Cameroon with 2.

Ah, that's a great stat for some pub quiz. :D

I thought it's some goal difference shenanigan but that makes more sense. Chile tying with everyone, Italy beating everyone and Austria tying with Cameroon.
