Op you realize that Italy and the Vatican are two different states and that you highlighted the whole of Italy?

What is "election-related violence", and why is it relevant what gender faces it?

Why is the Vatican even mentioned?

Because there are places where only women face physical violence when they attempt to vote? Cmon dude I'm all for equal treatment but don't pretend you don't know that there are places in the world where women don't have nearly equal rights.

You're telling me that this is a map of all states where women, and only women, face physical violence when they try to vote?
Thanks, that's what I wanted to know. Contrary to Reddit tradition, my questions were actually honest.
There's still issues with the map, like the Vatican/Italy thing, and it would be nice to know how far this map reaches into the past, but I understand it much better now.

Fair enough, my apologies for assuming you were being facetious.

Damn. I still reemember when a woman was hurt trying to vote in the Vatican. Not.
xenocles_the_lesser t1_irabziz wrote
I suppose a non-cardinal who broke in to a conclave and tried to cast a ballot would be removed from the building with the necessary force, and there are no female cardinals, so there is sort of a sense in which this is true, I guess.
EOwl_24 t1_iracero wrote
If I were a underage/not eligible to vote woman, I would be removed too somehow, I don’t see how that is relevant.
xenocles_the_lesser t1_iracye3 wrote
I think the fact that there are no women qualified to be electors is possibly relevant, but this is still an entirely different category than a country in which women are enfranchised but face extralegal violence if they try to exercise their franchise (and men don't, or do but at a significantly lower rate).

And this is why data still needs to be interpreted. As a Kenyan, I know there WAS violence in 2007 but it wasn't gender based but due to inter tribal violence. Yes women were killed but so were men and tragically children. The ONLY person shot & killed during the insurrection attempt in the USA was a woman. Using this criteria, the US should also have e red. 100% of the people shot & killed were women.

I mean, like I said: We're on Reddit, it's an easy mistake :-)
