I think that Nintendo gamers still want a light and comfortable console that would last long on battery, so focusing on power would be unwise. Piracy isn't really an argument. Anything can be emulated, but then you need to always respect those 15 watt requirements to make a fully portable console, or you end up with a Game Gear (trounced by Game Boy competition). Even the Steam Deck, that's conservative on power in respect to other makers, don't last long on battery.

Im not so sure I agree with some of this. They absolutely need to focus on power cause at this point you can emulate switch games and have a better gaming experience on a mobile device. Couple that with the Steam Deck and no im not comparing them and understand the difference in pricing, games and experience but nonetheless its more competition in the mobile gaming market. I know everyone thinks they like the 300 dollar price but AMD/SS has some new chips coming out that could really be beneficial for them to. Basically it comes down to this, they will either need to beef up or offer 2 versions from the get-go not years later. Switch 2 (OLED standard 350) and Switch 2 Deluxe (500). The former being the semi pathetic maybe tiny bit better (or worse) than the SD8 G2 the other rocking the new RDNA 2/Exynos (hopefully 3) mobile chips. That was me dreaming but lets say Nintendo being Nintendo does what Nintendo usually does and that's stick to the formula that worked so great last time. Before I continue I say we not forget they went with Nvidia cause they probably stole those X1 chips I mean Team Green had tons left over and they have stopped giving two crap about upgrading the ARM stuff. That said lets say they do stay with Nvidia I pray they see that its not a risk (not profitable) now and make a whole new chip and not use their Drive cards (orin possibly Thor) with Lovelace and get that beautiful DLSS which should by all accounts push it into 4K no problem docked. They HAVE to make one of these choices! Anbody who can tell me the Switch isn't already ancient and running some of these ports so badly you get a refund you'd be a liar. They need to avoid that this time and invest into cloud to compensate as well. To bad we didn't let Microsoft do their thing and crucified them instead cause I think cloud computing for consoles would be much further along.

I'll try for order, but will fail (and I'm skipping duplicates - I owned multiple GB, DS, GBA, Switch, and PSP):

  1. NES
  2. Game Boy
  3. Game Gear
  4. Genesis
  5. Sega CD
  6. 32X
  7. SNES
  8. Saturn
  9. Jaguar
  10. Playstation
  11. Nintendo 64
  12. Game Boy Color
  13. Dreamcast
  14. Playstation 2
  15. Game Boy Advance
  16. Game Cube
  17. DS
  18. PSP
  19. Playstation 3
  20. Xbox 360
  21. Wii
  22. 3DS
  23. Vita
  24. Switch
  25. RG350M
  26. Playstation 4 Pro
  27. PSVR
  28. Wii U
  29. Playstation 5
  30. Xbox Series X
  31. Steam Deck
  32. PSVR2

So, basically everything major except two generations of Xbox. I'm sure I missed some, especially the last few years - I've bought a few other "retro devices", but I really only used the RG350 and Steam Deck, and those are arguable as "consoles".

The megadrive was the first one that was truly mine. I can’t begin to imagine how many hours I played on that thing and as a kid it blew my mind. ToeJam & Earl, Sonic, Aladdin. I remember the kid across the street beat the cave level in Aladdin and he was like the Don of gaming for about a week. Also not forgetting Mortal Kombar. I didn’t have to go to the arcade to play it anymore! Trying to remember all the fatalities, trying to do that uppercut that sends them off the bridge and onto the spikes. Such good times! So many debates were resolved by a couple rounds of Mortal Kombat.

The other standout was the gamecube. Man, Smash Bros Mele, Double Dash, Viewtiful Joe, Die Hard, Metroid Prime, Pokemon Colosseum. I spent so long playing all these games going into all these worlds! But none more so than Sonic Adventure 2. The idea that there was the game, and then this weird other game where you raise a little creature in a garden and watched it grow and could race it and compete and mould it. It blew my mind!

Obviously gaming has come a long way from these days, but even today it blows my mind what some studios can do. It feels like this generation has barely even started yet and I can’t wait to see what happens!
