Dear Reddit Gamer Community! I want to buy a new console and I'm not sure which one would suit me best. I already own a Nintendo Switch, but I'm not really happy with the graphics. PS5 and Xbox series x both seem to be really good consoles and I don't even want to open the hundredth discussion about which console is objectively the better one. I just want to get some tips, maybe even from people who know both consoles well and have used them, which one might suit me better. Basically, I prefer to play online multiplayer games (currently mainly Fortnite and the graphics on the Switch is just grotty). That's certainly my focus. Otherwise, I like strategic games where you have to build worlds/villages or whatever. I don't have any specific exclusive game titles in mind that I really want to play, so I'm completely open. I have never used an Xbox, with the ps the first generation and the ps2 back in the day. I've read some reviews and watched YouTube videos on both consoles and just find it insanely difficult to decide.

I did and still can‘t decide. But yeah maybe the outcome is that it doesn‘t matter which one to get. And nope I didn‘t ask objectively since I mentioned my focus lol

My quick search pulled up probably a hundred Xbox vs PS5 questions. If you've read all of those and all the comments then nothing is going to help you decide 😂

I have both because I couldn't pick

Digital Version of PS5 around 450-520€ and Xbox x around 500€; so basically Same Price

Well seems like I‘d be same but I don‘t wanna have 3 consoles at home 🤣

Depending whether you care about physical media or not, PS5 has more physical media games, Xbox has game pass. I prefer physical games so I recommend PS5. I have both though. I like the Xbox memory expansion, but truth is it doesnt have as many games, especially imports and limited print games.
ZekerNietTijn t1_jb0z3tj wrote
If you buy an xbox series x, buy the console game pass with it! This gamepass offers you what you need.

Well I guess I hope someone will bring up some eye opening arguments that would give me a clear tendency. I‘m not a person who spends crazy amounts of time on playing games and when I got the switch last year I hoped I‘d be okay with it but I‘m not. I just don‘t wanna feel frustrated again, so I wanna get more opinions.

I‘d get the Digital Version of the PS5 if I go for the ps I think. I don‘t wanna use any space in my small Apartment for physical games.
CLVNWLL OP t1_jb0zo1c wrote
Just impressed by your collection, but I don‘t Even have that much Space for all of them

If you like strategic and multiplayer games, I think the best option is Xbox Series X. Age of Empires II came on January and the controls adapted to console are great. Moreover, Gears Tactics and Halo Wars are good additions to the RTS games.
You also have other kind of games like Cities: Skylines, Shadowrun Trilogy, Minecraft and other similar games on Gamepass.
Nonetheless, if you prefer 3rd person narrative games, like God of War, The Last of Us or Horizon Zero Dawn, as well as JRPGs, I would go with PS5.
Original_Ack t1_jb193ss wrote
I would also add Civilization VI to the Xbox. It is identical to the PC version and adapted very well to the controller. I play several strategy and empire building games all on my Series X.
CounterSYNK t1_jb1csmi wrote
Maybe decide whether you want to play on a controller with offset analog sticks or in-line sticks. That is what your decision seems to come to. Both consoles can play the kinda of games you outlined. Get whichever you like the look of honestly. But make sure to play on a 4ktv to get the most out of whichever you choose.

The series X for me

If you prefer digital the Xbox probably the way to go. Especially since it has expansion storage slot for SSD which is important if you don’t wanna uninstall games to make room. Plus gamepass
Blackash99 t1_jb29fnc wrote
PS Plus essential has 760 games to play right now. Pick the one with the games you want to play!
thebigarn t1_jb2h5dm wrote
I have both and lean xbox. You can go from xbox to xbox to computer and your save info is just there it’s so easy. Also all the backwards compatible stuff if you bought a 360 game 15 years ago poof it’s right there. I’d say if you want to play horizon zero dawn, God of War, or Spiderman, get the ps5. There’s really no wrong answer they are both awesome.

Hi! I have both consoles and think the xbox will be the better choice for you.

Xbox is your best bet. Easy to find people to play with and has Age of Empires now on GP.

imo games usually come to both systems anyways, and in similar quality. So I think it comes down to the exclusives for either console, as well as their past-gen counterparts. In that case... PS5, hands down.
I mean, there's God of War 3, 2016, and Ragnarok; There's Ratchet and Clank (2016) and Rift Apart. There's the Uncharted series. There's The Last of Us 1 and 2. There's Dreams, LittleBigPlanet 3 and Sackboy: A Big Adventure. There's Spider-Man (2017) and it's sequel, Miles Morales, not to mention Spider-Man 2 coming out soon. There's Playroom, Astro's Playroom, Playroom VR, and Astro Bot: Rescue Mission. There's Terraway: Unfolded. There's Returnal. There's Shadow of the Colossus. (AMONG US???) There's Iron Man VR. There's Horizon: Zero Dawn and Forbidden West.
And did I mention that Xbox One and Series has no VR? That means every single PS VR game would be unavailable on Xbox Series.
So in my opinion I would pick the PS5.
Magmalord236 t1_jb3cq57 wrote
One tip I can share with you after having owned the ps4 and Xbox one s is to not get the PlayStation ONLY for the exclusives, in my mind it’s not worth it, I switched from Xbox and it’s a good console, especially with having vr, but don’t get it just for the exclusive titles
PixelPerfectBalance t1_jb3gsio wrote
Is there a way to see all games?

I think it depends a lot on what you want to play and who you want to play with. I own both the PS5 and the Series X. Love the PS5 exclusives, also love Gamepass and now that GoW is done most of the games I want this year are multiplatform so will likely buy them on Xbox. I don't buy into the the X game plays better on X console argument, everything I've played works well on either.
Gamepass is great value, and if you're going to get it I'd lean towards the Xbox.
Severn2j t1_jb4qz94 wrote
I have both, but prefer the PS5 myself. Both have a subscription service - Xbox game pass vs PSPlus (‘extra’ tier gives best value imo). Multi platform games are pretty much the same on either console, but I’m a big fan of Sony’s first party games (the last of us, god of war, horizon, etc) and the ps5 dualsense controller is the best I’ve ever used

i don't know what to say but what is your faviote game to play durling your spare time

This is the correct answer
Haloaddict117 t1_jbfee90 wrote
mmm well most of those games fall under a certain genre (forgot what it's called) that is not very attractive to some people. Xbox has the better multiplayer fps shooters (because of halo yes, and all the other stuff the ps has too). Ps5 exclusives don't have multiplayer (as far as I know, correct me if I'm wrong).

Depends on your genre preference.
