Apologies if this is too off topic.

I got to Government Center at 5pm. I was headed towards North Station to catch the 5:25 CR to Lowell. Because of delays, we didn’t get on the Green Line until 5:20pm or so. When we got off at North Station, so many people started running full tilt up the stairs — but no dice. We all just missed it. Now I’m stuck here until the 6:10pm train.

I know this is an incredibly self-centered question to ask, but in the future, is there some kind of number someone could call that would have alerted the conductors that commuters were on the way and delayed the CR by even five minutes? Or, couldn’t the CR make allowances when the subway lines are super delayed? There were at least 15 people on my GL trying to catch the CR. I’m sure there were other people in different train cars stuck in the same boat as us.

Anyway I’m sitting here at the station and so many people are sprinting through trying to get on their various trains. I’m guessing more people who were also stuck in GL limbo 🤣

(also what is going on with the green line??)

No. Commuter rail will not delay for any reason unless there are issues with commuter rail. If one train goes off schedule, then that throws every other train off. Use trackthet.com and if you see green line delays, just walk to North Station

Yeah, I realize now I should’ve walked. I think I just bought into sunk cost fallacy — I’ve waited this long, I should just keep waiting… etc.

TY for the website, I didn’t know this was a thing. I’ll bookmark it on my phone :)

Just walk. Especially if you're as close as Government Center. The T just isn't worth taking.

Seriously, if you're within a mile, it's just better to walk.

For future reference, Government Center to North Station is only around a ten minute walk.

Regarding basically everything MBTA related downtown, it's all very walkable. So unless you aren't comfortable walking, absolutely do that if there's issues with the MBTA and you can't miss a train, because once one of them is late you'll miss the rest of your commute 99% of the time. Pull up Google Maps on your phone and set it to your destination and your current location, it points you which direction to walk in and you'll see if you're going down the wrong street in real time.

As to your question of what was happening with the green line, someone tried killing themselves at Park Street a few hours ago. Half the red line was shut down. So could be that.

The MBTA is gonna suck for another 20 years, too long of a story to say why.

Walk the 10 minutes, you'll beat the MBTA at least half of the time.
