The weather outside has me daydreaming of summer. My long-distance girlfriend just moved to the Boston area, and once it's slightly warmer we would love to go for a long walk along the beach at night and/or just sit in the sand and stargaze. Do any of you know of a close-ish beach where this might be possible? Someplace like Crane Beach would be ideal, but it seems like those types of places won't have any access at night. Revere (or Winthrop?) or Salisbury would probably work for a walk, but maybe not stargazing... Any ideas? Thanks!

Singing Beach in Manchester-by-the-Sea is legally accessible at night and very nice! Official parking is closed at night (or its resident-only, I forget), but you can find street parking in the town and then walk over. You can also walk from the commuter rail stop. It's not the closest but it's a bit less far than Crane Beach.

The stars at night are amazing at ocean side Cape beaches like Nauset Beach.

Thank you! I was hoping to avoid a long drive, but it looks like a visit to the Cape may be in order :)

If stargazing is your goal, it'll be hard to find something around Boston.

Everything is Bortle 5 or higher : https://www.lightpollutionmap.info/#zoom=10.00&lat=42.3584&lon=-71.0598

I've seen pretty cool skies at the Cape.

#TIL There is a Nauset Beach in Orleans AND Eastham!

We used to rent a place at the latter and the stargazing there is joy too.

Go tonight... Walking on the beach after a snow storm is sort of magical. Cross country skiing is even better

Carson + M/L St beaches in Southie is on the Red Line (Andrew Station) and have free parking. It's long stretch of sandy beaches from Pleasure Bay (you can plane watch + cool night time port lights) all the way down to UMass and JFK Museum. The view of Telegraph Hill (Dorchester Heights), where George Washington scored an important victory over Britain, is lit up pretty nicely from Carson Beach.

You probably won't see stars super clearly though, but a moonlit ocean is pretty cool. You're also really close to restos and bars in Southie.

Adding that at the other end of Pleasure Bay is Fort Independence aka Castle Island (no longer an island) which is pretty freaking cool. I think DCR closes the furthest east parking late at night, but you can still park relatively close.
