I am seeking suggestions for two items for a yankee swap in Munich this Christmas. Limit is EUR20 but I would go over anyway. The only thing I have heard is the family likes useful/practical things. I would like Boston/New England items. TIA!

Funniest thing I ever saw was a framed picture of the giver. Nobody wanted it. So after everyone traded and decided what was who’s…. It was fine. But in the back of the picture there was cash hidden behind. So that person ended up with more than they thought.

Whenever I do a yankee swap I get something from a local store that I want to stay around. Often I do a board game from Eureka in Brookline. I know this is not what you had in mind, but wanted to throw it out there.

New England Maple Syrup

Edit: That would make a smashing host/hostess gift. Yankee swap? eh? I don't have good experiences with those, quite a waste, in my opinion.

I’d suggest the MBTA salt/pepper shakers from MBTA gifts. $20, they’re useful, and sorta kitsch-y/tourist-y. While the current T can be…problematic…that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate having Americas oldest subway system. (It’s more useful then a stuffed lobster or something like that.)

Some of the best I’ve seen are big ugly elephants painted white and a live lobster.

I’d get them maple syrup or those candies made out of maple syrup as one thing. Perhaps a scarf knitted locally?

Local spices or infused oils are always handy! If you see any local craft fairs it’s always nice to get things like soaps or little kitchen items. And can’t go wrong with a large Dunks cup full of clam chowder - perfect stocking stuffer.

A bottle of wine always seems to go over well. And fits any budget.

Just like, when you run into the Yankee Swap with a $13, $17, or $21 limit, you'll be prepared.
