Booking a heavy metal tour - Are there any metal clubs in Boston? I've only been able to find 1000+ capacity spaces, and my mid sized band could not fill that room. Are there any 200-500 capacity spaces in Boston or even Worcester ? I heard of Palladium but the capacity for that space is so big. I'm looking for something bigger than a hole in the wall, but smaller than Palladium and House of Blues...

Help? Thanks in advance.

Your post appears to be one of a number of commonly asked questions about the port city of Boston. Anyway, Royale is fine if you're just trying to get drunk and dance and hookup. The Grand is more of the same as Royale but more expensive and a stricter dress code. Bijou is fine if you're into house music, the last few times I've been to Bijou the crowd was mostly freshly 21 people. Legacy is under Royale and a pretty great queer club if that's you're thing. Good Life, Phoenix Landing, Middlesex, and The Lower Level are all great for underground shows if that's your thing. The vibes at those 4 places are all pretty good. Good Life is my favorite and they open back up this weekend. If you're just looking to get trashed and don't care what you dance to or who you dance around, any of the bars around Haymarket/Faneuil Hall will do. Ned Devine's, Hennessey's, Hong Kong ($1 chicken sticks!), Sissy K's, Coogan's. I think there's a few more I'm missing but those are the big ones. Also, I can't believe I forgot this, but if you're into top 40 or hip hop, Venu, Cure, Icon, and Hava are places to go if you're looking for something a little nicer/fancier/more upscale than what the Faneuil Hall/Haymarket bars and clubs offer. I also forgot about Memoire because it's in the casino but frankly I don't really know anyone who goes to Memoire regularly. It's more of the same stuff they play at the Grand and Royale. Now I think I've named them all. Also, please check the sidebar for visitor information.

Check out Ralph’s in Worcester. In the Boston area, The Middle East has three venues (upstairs/Sonia/downstairs) that might help you Goldilocks capacity.

If you’re looking for a spot in NYC, check out Saint Vitus in Brooklyn.

There's two spaces, the smaller space (Upstairs) is 500.

Boston/Cambridge:

Brighton Music Hall is 500.

Middle East complex - Upstairs is ~200, Sonia is ~350, Downstairs is 575.

Those both host a lot of the heavier gigs that come to town in that size range.

Sinclair is ~525 but I rarely see any heavy shows booked there.

If you're tiny, O'Briens is 75 I think.

Smaller places I've seen metal shows at before in the wider area:

Worcester - Ralph's Rock Diner - ~400.

Providence - Fete Music Hall's smaller room is ~200, Alchemy - ~300.

Edit: Haven't been there, but Taffeta in Lowell is in that size range I think and has multiple metal gigs on the upcoming calendar.

You could also probably skim this listing of upcoming punk/hardcore shows in the region for venues I haven't mentioned, if they'll book that they'll certainly book metal: https://safeinacrowd.com/

From the details you’ve listed, it sounds like you’re looking for Ralph’s in Worcester. The Middle East in Cambridge has multiple spaces within the venue and is probably in your size range. But speaking personally as someone in the Boston metal scene, I’d always rather go to a show at O’Briens in Allston than the Middle East, though they definitely have a smaller capacity.
