When it came out, and for a number of years afterwards, Ready Player One was a reasonably hallowed book in geekdom. Sure, it was fully compromised of tropes, and not some great epic novel, but it was fun.
That’s when I first read it anyway. I’m surprised to learn now that isn’t the case. This is ignoring the horrible sequels (Armada included) and attempt at a movie.
I’m starting a new year with reading a bunch of books, and I just finished RP1 again. Frankly, I thought it was great. But as I poke around online, it apparently not cool to enjoy this book now, and I don’t get it.
Now I don’t care at all what anybody else thinks, but I’m kind of curious why it seems like the whole community flipped on it.
