Just finished reading. Wanted to finish it before the movie “adaptation“ comes out in two weeks.

It got me wondering, do you think they will have the big plot point that hit 2/3 into the book in the movie? Pretty taboo scene for a movie, and not sure how it would play in a “major” theatrical release. My personal take, I doubt it will be in the movie, and Shymalan will completely change the “turn” of the book into something I am not expecting. I liked the book, and it read really fast, and can see how it got picked up quickly.

I feel like they kind of have to. It's the penultimate moment of the book, and the story doesn't really work without it imo. Although, I hear Shyamalan changed the ending (I thought the book ending was a copout, so I'm hesitantly optimistic about that), so maybe he changed that too? I hope not, sad as it was.

I didn't like the ending of the book so I hope he changed it.

So far the trailers seem to follow the book pretty closely. I know there are changes but I really don't see the story working as well if you take that out. Plus in the newer trailer there's a brief scene where you see Andrew and Eric outside with a plane falling from the sky. It is shot low so that doesn't necessarily mean they're alone... I really don't know. Just the fact I'm excited for a Shyamalan movie is odd. To think he won't mess it up is a little too much to wrap my head around. If it was a more consistent director/writer I would say it's definitely going to happen. With M. Night behind it... I guess we'll see.

I read an article a few weeks ago that made it very clear that the movie will be an adaptation and that there will be significant changes.

This was one of my DNF books last year, I didn't want to spend the week reading about a family being terrorized. The previews of the movie make me wonder if I should have given it more of a chance. I stopped when the strangers knocked on the door.

I’m 100% expecting a “twist” that isn’t in the book and frankly worried about it lol

Are you talking about the (major spoilers) >!death of Wen?!< I don’t know how you’d adapt this successfully without it.

Just as an aside. I can’t overstate how annoyed I am that the trailer shows footage of the apocalypse happening. 90% of the experience for me going in was not knowing whether or not the visitors were telling the truth.
