The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I thought it was extremely well written. But it started with bleak, progressed to horrifying, and then degraded further to whatever is beyond horrifying, I can’t even think of a word for it.
Afterward I just wanted to wash my soul.

Not a book but a short story, "Midnight Meat Train" by Clive Barker. Read that right after finishing Revival by Stephen King and had to read a non-horror book after that.

I recently enjoyed reading King's Four Past Midnight but it was his Library Policeman tale that left me feeling filthy afterwards because of what the protagonist had to endure. All in all, the tales were certainly not King's best work, but it still feels good knowing that it's in my rearview mirror now and I can soon start reading his next book on my list: Christine.

No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai.
A powerful book that's well written and worth the read but touches on a lot of dark subjects and self hatred from the author that double up pretty hard if you've experienced any of them yourselves. Probably my favorite book I read this year, but it was a difficult read not due to the writing but the subject and I can't recommend it to people in good conscience without a lot of warnings attached

Unwind by Neil Shutterman legit couldn't read the others in the series cause it felt me feeling so uncomfortable but still really liked the book.
