The Odyssey is one of the best adventure books I've ever read.
The epic about the return of Odysseus to Ithaca after 10 years of war in Troy was sensational. Using his cunning, he managed to get out of great difficulties.
The books 9–12 are the best part of the poem, when the issue recounts his adventures. We are introduced to characters like lotus-eaters, Polyphemus, Aeolus, Laestrygonians, Scylla, Charybdis, the sirens, we see Odysseus going to the underworld.
The Calypso Nymph appears before Odysseus is saved by Nausicaa.
In the end, Odissue using his cunning massacred those who coveted his wife, his throne and tried to kill his son. He disguised himself as a simple slave to infiltrate Ithaca and started a massacre. he gave up his pride for efficiency.
In the end he reconciles with his wife Penelope.
Unlike modern retellings of the story of Helen of Sparta, in the Odyssey she was happy to return to Menelaus.
I never liked what the movie Troy did with regard to Helen and Menelaus.

TiL a story that's survived 1000 years is actually pretty good.
