I feel like you'd get more help in another sub that is dedicated to such things. But I'll give it a shot anyways.

When you go through trad publishing, they provide the marketing for you.

Work, passion, commitment, community-building, and a little bit of luck ... if anyone on Reddit had an easy answer to this there'd be way more people writing books. And with that said, excluding self-published authors, roughly one million books are published each year in the United States alone and a very small percentage of those sell 10k copies. Stick with it if you enjoy the process and hopefully your wish comes true.

Look into self publishing, ebook marketing, and writers forums.

Make a bunch of posts asking questions about it or comparing it to other things to make folks aware of the title.

Bonus if it is controversial I guess.

Honestly? Paying for a popular YouTuber to review it is probably the best bang for your buck these days. But also book signing tours do still help. And conventions. And giving it away absolutely will work, particularly to people who work at book stores or libraries, basically anyone who is highly likely to have opportunities to recommend books. Giving it away at conventions is also helpful. Getting recommendations from popular authors is also huge. And of course, nothing compares to the sales you get from a TV or movie adaptation. LOL
