My teacher read that book to the class when I was 8. It was one of the most thought-provoking books I'd ever read at the time. Really made me appreciate literature more, and the kinds of stories you could tell. She read other stories to us, Redwall, Guardians of Ga'hool, but The Giver was the one that lingered in my memory.
