I'm not getting why this matters at all. Maybe you'll find out a cute author's work isn't your style and don't read more. Maybe you'll find out the work is exactly your style and read everything. Maybe you'll see more pictures and find out it was just one really good head shot you saw at a stop light one time and the crush has passed.

In any event, remember it's an author, you don't know them, and keep an appropriate distance and perspective.

Discussion is the goal

Do not post shallow content. All posts must be directly book related, informative, and discussion focused.

Agreed. Is this shallow content?

It is not really related to books.

It is related to reading, which I believe is integral to most books.

In the abstract, this is a discussion about the line between a fiction or narrative presented within a book, and the underlying and contributing factors. A "less shallow" example would be ghostwriters; the reader comprehension of a book is affected by the perception of a writer e.g. Steven King -- there is a dialectical between the reader perception and reality, which is worthy of discussion.

All readers always incorporate perceptions and beliefs about the author, native language or language of presentation, and culture at least in the setting of the book. A western philosophy book is categorically distinct from an eastern or classical philosophy book. The details of reality and context surrounding authors bleeds into the art.

Sure. But your post is about having a crush on a 'cute' woman whose voice you heard on the radio, and have not read any of her books.

If you want to discuss how our opinion of writer's attractiveness influences how we perceive their writing, you can make a post about that. But that is not what your post is about, so please seek a more appropriate sub.

Is a book the sum of the words on the paper, or the related ideas?

You and I have arrived at this shared understanding of a mutually-concluded relevant topic due to the "shallow" post. I think it is unjust to describe it as demeaningly as you have done, but it is fair insomuch as it is an individual opinion and I respect it as such. I would not conclude that individual opinion is a legitimate basis for moderation, especially when there is agreement than the topic at hand is relevant to the community.

But I will not second-guess your judgement. I accept your conclusion and the little consequence that comes with it. Have a lovely day, book enthusiast CatLady108.

Okay? Read George R R Martin books then if you don't want a cute author.

You and I have very different definitions of cute.

Hey I'm not gonna shame you for being into old men who look like they are chronically going fishing

Thanks, I don't think I could bear any more shame.

Chronically going fishing tho, what a great description. I'm down to be Mr. R. R. Martin's fishing buddy.

Sounds like you may want to take a beat and remember that you're fixating on someone you've never met, and aren't likely to unless you were to do something inappropriate, stalkerish, and creepy.

unto-death OP t1_j0cm7nr wrote

Is it fixation? I also have a hard time reading a book when a person's individual political values color their text. The author, an artist, is a part of their work.

Maybe the books will be cute too, idk I'll update you when I find out.
