Well, without spoiling it too much Prince Of Nothing is so good in this regard.

Granted the main character (not exactly main protagonist, but it’s kind of fluid in this story) is actually a bit of a chosen one, it’s more subtle how it all plays out.

Absolutely recommend this trilogy
