Discussion is the goal
Do not post shallow content. All posts must be directly book related, informative, and discussion focused.

I'm discussing a book series here.

The majority of your post should be focused on a book/series, to generate a discussion about a book/series. Right now your post is at least half about making scrambled eggs and the other half is about an old friend and your relationship with them.

I think I make it clear in the essay that both of those elements are also about the book series. Call it an analogy.

But they are still the majority of your post. There is really no need to know how your father came to make his omelets in his complicated way for you to communicate that sometimes less is more when it comes to plot/book content.

You not liking the essay is not the same thing as it being off-topic, but I don't suppose your mind will be changed

I have no opinion on your essay one way or another, I am just asking you to keep the post on topic. Family traditions and toxic friendships can be part of your post, but the focus must still be books/series.

Digressions about friendship and family make up the bulk of the series. I'm using the essay a bit as a mirror to the novels to make a point about the novels.
It seems to be a stylistic disagreement here, which isn't especially fruitful.

Perhaps. Still, your post, as it is now, is more appropriate for a personal blog or a writing exercise.
