The Catcher in the Rye got me into reading. I read it again years later and it didn't hit nearly as hard as it did when I was a teenager.
After giving whatever you decide to read a fair chance, if you're not enjoying it then don't force yourself to finish. Just find something new, since making reading a chore is the worst way to get yourself into it.

Julia Alvarez (in the time of the butterflies, how the Garcia girls lost their accent) is an author I enjoy.
Ulysses by James Joyce
The Rise and fall of the third Reich by William Shirer
Catherine by William K Massey
The Emperor of All Maladies by Siddhartha Mukherji
The Tale of Genji
Crime and Punishment by Doestoevsky
Kind of ambitious for a teenager who is not yet into reading. Just keeping the names straight in Crime and Punishment alone will send the kid back to video games in no time. Great book for someone who is already an avid reader.
Solitaire by Alice oseman
You might like Spud by John van de Ruit. It is about a boy in a border school in South Africa. Many characters, but told in 1st person from Spud's perspective. 4 books in the series. You may have spurts of outloud laughter sometimes.
It’s classified as middle grade so it may be too young for you, but I loved The Secret Diary of Mona Hasan. The main character is twelve. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/58784781-the-secret-diary-of-mona-hasan
You might try Life as We Knew it and The Dead and the Gone by Sarah Beth Pfieffer
Monster by Walter Dean Meyers is a good one and Fallen Angels by him as well.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is also great but you have to hang on for the first chapter. It’s a bit weird and confusing but then the story straightens out.
I also adored The Book by Marcus Zusack. The narration is a little different but the story is wonderful
