The earlier books show more effort, I agree - the more recent books in the series are getting downright formulaic. And honestly, I wish she'd chuck the sex scenes because there are too many, and Eve never seems to change. She's still fairly clueless, grumpy, and brusque with no progress, whereas Peabody, Mavis, the other detectives show growth.

Sadly, I don't read the books for Eve, I read them for the other characters.

i fell in love with the setting and it’s uniqueness. now i feel like i forget it’s years in the future, and because she doesn’t set the scene like she used to, her use of “futuristic” lingo and words feels forced and almost like they don’t belong. i miss the victims being diverse instead of just.. people. i really liked the book where the homeless man was killed in his little house tent. i can’t remember which book it was. but i remember i couldn’t put it down. now i almost have to force myself to continue reading.
